A Break That Changed Everything
A few years ago, I hit a wall—burned out and weary from the pressures of life and work. I took what was meant to be a short break to rest and write, planning to return to my career just a couple of months later.
But what started as a temporary pause turned into a deeper journey of faith.
My savings were enough to support the short break, but as time passed and my return to work kept getting postponed, money began to run low. I did what any practical person would do—I tightened my belt, cut unnecessary spending, and tried to stretch every coin.
And yet, even as the money shrank, I kept seeing God provide—just in time, every time.
The Day Things Got Desperate
But then came a day I’ll never forget.
I checked my bank balance: $37. And I knew an automatic payment was scheduled to clear the next day. Someone who owed me money had promised to pay that same day. But when we met, she only had a small portion of it. I smiled politely as she handed me the cash, but my heart sank. It wasn’t enough.
I held it together until I got home. Then I searched every corner of the house—old purses, jacket pockets, under cushions—looking for loose change or forgotten bills. I gathered what I could, laid it all out on the kitchen table, and still came up short.
Sitting there with my head in my hands, I wept. And I prayed.
“Lord, You’ve always come through before. What should I do now?”
That’s when I felt it—that gentle nudge in my spirit: Take it to the bank.
Obeying the Unreasonable
It didn’t make sense. I was nearly $60 short. Why deposit money that still wasn’t enough? Wouldn’t it be wiser to wait and see if more came in?
But the prompting wouldn’t go away: Take it to the bank.
So I gathered the little I had, drove to the bank, and used the drive-through lane furthest from the teller’s window. I couldn’t face her—not after once having a thriving account, now down to almost nothing.
I placed my small deposit into the tube and hit "Send."
I didn’t expect anything more than a polite transaction and a receipt showing what I already knew: that I was still short.
Then the Miracle Happened
A few moments passed. Then came the buzz of the intercom.
“Ma’am, what would you like to do with the extra money?”
My heart skipped.
“What extra money?” I asked.
“There’s another $100 in here that wasn’t included in your total.”
I was stunned. I had counted the money multiple times before leaving home. That $100 wasn’t there. And yet now, it was exactly what I needed—and more.
I sat there, speechless, with tears running down my face.
More Than Just Money
That $100 wasn’t just a financial miracle. It was a personal message from God: “I see you. I’ve got you. You can trust Me.”
It wasn’t the largest miracle I’ve experienced, but it came at the exact moment I needed it most. It turned fear into faith. And it reminded me that obedience often comes before provision.
Life After the Miracle
Since that day, I’ve stepped fully into a new calling—serving in community outreach and intercessory prayer, supported by others and the faithfulness of God. People still ask if I’ll ever return to medicine. I miss the salary, sure—but I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything.
Because here’s what I know now: When God calls, He provides. Always.
Are You Waiting on a Miracle?
If you're in a place where you're watching your bank account shrink and your faith get tested, take heart. God isn’t just able to provide—He wants to. You’re not alone.
Trust Him. Even when it doesn’t make sense. Especially then.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God… And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
– Philippians 4:6, 19
